The best thing about the Science Museum is the Butterfly exhibit which is an additional cost and a separate museum inside the science museum. They have lots of interactive games and tons of information as well as a large 3 story area with lots of free flying butterflies that you can catch and release. My kids loved the butterfly museum more than the actual science area. However, as an adult, I thought the science museum had a few interesting features such as the oil rig ride and the gems.
On Tuesdays after 2 PM, everyone gets into the science museum freed you have to pay for the butterfly museum though I went on a free day and honestly, I would have been disappointed had I had to have paid for both attractions! My vote goes to the Butterfly museum alone.

Well family of 5 traveling Also hotel had plenty of coupons buy one get one in attraction flyer display. Surprised the kids really liked the museum It was really nice.. The butterfly exhibit was the family favorite be sure to wear a bright colored shirt and you will attract all the butttflys to your shirt Makea it a lot of fun!!! You will have to pay separate fees to get into the butterfly house, or to get into the 2 special exhibits which really aren't anything spectacular. The basic entry fee only gets you into the main museum, then they have people posted at each hallway where a special exhibit starts, so that you can't get in if you didn't pay.
I saw someone mention a membership, but tourists, like myself, don't need one of those.

This is extremely unfair to inner city children and families of poorer socio economic status. Further, we arrived around 3. The museum closes around 6, I believe 9 on other nights.

They blocked most of the exhibit that we could see! Tables right in front of the viewing cases. We were all trying to walk around the people setting up tables in front of every single case, in hopes we could see some of what we paid for. THEN the employees acted annoyed with us--paying customers-- for being in their way. Even though the museum didn't close for another 2 hours. I'll take it that's not how they operate everyday, but I was not impressed at all. I love the place. We purchased a membership which I have done for 3 years now.
The Cockrell Butterfly Center has hundreds and hundreds of different butterflies in a rain forest type setting. The Hubble telescope movie was good. Now there is an excellent movie there "Born to be Wild" that has the story of 2 women on opposite sides of the world.

Good movie. There is a McDonald's inside the building so you can even eat in between movies or events. My husband and I made an afternoon of the museum.
The butterfly exhibit was breathtaking. If you only do one thing, do this! I could have stayed in there for hours if it weren't for the humidity. They keep it like a true rainforest!
The exhibits are very interesting. It is geared toward children, but adults on their own, as we were, could still enjoy playing with many of the demonstrations. Silly me.

I should know better by now! The prices are outrageous. The whole museum, including the special exhibits, should all be one price. I felt as if they had their hand out for everything. The gift shop prices are appalling. I was surprised that they only had a McDonald's and not some fancy place like at the Aquarium.
